Subname Use Cases

Wallet names

To onboard next billion people to crypto, we need to suit up all addresses with human-readable, cross-chain names. Wallets use ENS for simpler user onboarding. They generate and assign an easy to remember (.eth) username to each wallet address. This improves onboarding, security, and overall user experience.

AI: Autonomous Identity

AI agents need to have human-readable names to make interaction with them easier and more intuitive. Furthermore, all agents must follow an onchain identity standard where .eth names and subnames are used as identifiers. AI frameworks and launchpads directly integrate Subname registrations and management from the AI agent launch, giving their agents a cross-chain web3 identifier and a username.

Grassroot Subnames

Developers want easy access to useful dev tools, plugins, extensions, etc. in familiar environments. Having ENS names and subname registration and management readily available is a MUST for all SDK, libraries, blockchain tools and service providers, to enrich their offering and allow developers direct access to premier Web3 naming service.

Gamer tags

Currently, all in-game usernames are siloed non-functional database records that can't function outside of their local environment. Having ENS-powered usernames games benefit from having a unified namespace for all of their players, equipping them with globally resolvable .eth names for their wallets and in-game assets.

Brand awareness boost

Brands love to either build custom subname minting pages using Subpages or integrate ENS to allow their followers and community to mint Subnames. This allows brands to amplify their brand voice and align their community under one unified identity.

Collective Identity

Subnames provide every member of a community with a personalized handle, ensuring their presence feels unique and valued within the community. This presents a recognizable identity that reflects their vision and values. Used by DAOs, PFP collections, token-gated communities, Web3 communities, etc.

.eth assets identifiers

ENS is used across various DeFi and DeFAI apps. From DEXes and multisign management, to on/off-ramping, payroll, and multibillion-dollar asset managers. It's used to give wallet names, web3 user identities, an asset class identifiers, privacy-perceiving protocol, payroll services, payment routing using subnames, DAO treasury management, etc.

Chain-wide Identity

Following the example of Basenames and Linea names, both of which minted >500k subnames and generated hundreds of ETH in revenue, all L2 chains should natively support and offer their ecosystem builders easy access to ENS as the official naming service!
